Delhi Couture Week 2013 opened to full house with Anju Modi’s spellbound collection at the Taj Palace Hotel on 31 July’13. The collection was inspired and named after draupadi, wife of the five Pandav’s.
“Of eyes like lotus-petals and of faultless features endued with youth and intelligence, she is extremely beautiful”, such is the undying description of draupadi and now I would say Anju Modi’s collection too. Extremely beautiful, youthful yet powerful.
With deep colors, statement jewellry, light makeup and structured clothing Anjo Modi’s draupadi was fierce, self dependant and ‘don’t mess with me’ women of today.
Anju Modi this time too rolled her layering dice. But I personally preferred the slick, structure, robust pieces which were accessorized to perfection with brooches, statement jewelry and great attitude by the models.
The show began with a spectacular performance by a Bangalore-based dance troupe and dressed as Draupadi, Bollywood actress Tabu walked the ramp as showstopper (only if she replicated some of her fab on-screen drama skill for the runway too, she rather seemed bored/confused to me :P)
Organic fabrics like pure cotton, khadi, chanderi and raw silk were used. Motif’s played a key role where, bird in the cage was my favorite which again depicted the modern draupadi.
Full sleeves blouses, jackets, bandhgalas, use of pashmina shawls embellished with Kashmiri embroidery and very little skin show, the collection was high on wearability factor and royalty !
I loved Modi’s collection but this love grows with Sabyasachi!
Up next Sabyasachi for PCJDCW 2013!
