They say it’s only when you pass out from your school or college is when you realise how fondly you cherish that time in your life. And I am sure I can say that for many of you reading this.
Recently, I got to revisit my college time when I visited Pearl Academy (best fashion design) Colleges in India!
My day started at the Naraina campus which was buzzing with young boys and girls who were present for their 4 day orientation programme called POW WOW!
“POWWOW” is the largest conglomerate of “Life Design Workshops” conducted every year by Pearl Academy for their new under-grad students. Consisting of series of super crazy workshops that tickle the brain wires of zesty minds with several multi-sensory, spirited and multidisciplinary activities related to drama, music, fashion, photography & art.
The vibe, the energy, the connect between the teachers & students was just amazing! I loved every bit of it and wanted to rewind my college days, all over again. For the day I also had this cool gadget called Snapchat spectacles, which gave you guys the live preview of my day at Pearl Academy!
I also got to speak to some of the teachers and students because I wanted to know why is POWWOW conducted at such a large scale? Because, to be honest, during my college days we didn’t have such great workshops! The reason was beyond just ‘fun’ workshops. Education in a formal setting that often reflects the understanding as ‘learning of facts’. While deeper learning and engagement comes out of scientific learning which fosters social interaction, that is, sharing observation and ideas with each other that fosters curiosity and stimulates new ideas. And that’s why POWWOW workshops are such an integral part of Pearl Academy.
What’s a college visit without a detour to the canteen! I ended my day at the Naraina campus with some delectable biryani and momos and paneer kulcha and honey crispy potatoes {yes, I binged on all}
Soon it was time to witness the big reveal! It was time to visit the all new, swanky, 10,000 sq. ft. Pearl Academy college of fashion design in Rajouri Garden.
Don’t know how many of you know this but before opting for Eco(H) at Delhi university, I was trying my hands on fashion design colleges. And trust me if this campus was present then, I would surly be a Pearlite alumni today!
Apart from its huge class size and minimal design, the new age campus is designed around the needs of design students, providing them with a contemporary architectural canvas that is permeated with digitally enhanced classrooms and collaborative spaces. Like the modern & hybrid blended labs for courses like Communication Design, Product Design, Pattern Making and Garment Construction, that has over 250 workstations that can accommodate 300 students for each session.
Colors have been used mindfully through the campus with close attention paid to their potential to impact one’s mind and emotions. Clear cool white, blues and greens are dominant hues. Splashes of energising orange are tempered with stabilising greys across the new Rajouri Garden Campus.
The building also maintains the global sustainability standards by following best practices such as energy efficient lighting and having treatment plants for waste management & disposal.
Ranked as the best private fashion college in India for the fifth consecutive year by India Today, The Week and Outlook, Pearl Academy offers over 30 uniquely designed under-graduate, post-graduate and professional development courses through its colleges in Delhi NCR, Jaipur and Mumbai. Students from any stream can apply for these courses. The academy has also announced inter campus transfers for UG courses wherein for e.g. students in Jaipur campus can transfer into Delhi or Mumbai campus in their third or fourth year.
Adding another feather to its hat, Pearl Academy has recently been recognised as an authorised study Centre of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) and will offer UGC recognised degree courses at its campuses in Delhi NCR & Mumbai. In addition, Pearl has also tied up with Torrens University, Australia for transfer of credits in final year for B.Des/B.Biz courses in Australia.
Its path-breaking alliances with renowned bodies such as the Fashion Design Council of India (FDCI) and Institute of Indian Interior Designers (IIID) have ensured that its faculty and students get an exclusive access to ‘industry in the classroom’.
The campus is waiting for students and faculty to stamp their own identity onto the fresh walls and corridors of this new campus with installations, artworks, videos. So are you seeing your work on these walls already!?
