#FoodPorn: Highway On My Plate With Dhaba By Claridges.

Dear foodies,

There are a few restaurants in everyones lives that they grow up eating in! Be it someones slow cooked dal makhani or BUTTERFUL butter chicken. No matter how old you get or how many new restaurants are born, one always salivates in their name, have fond memories and family stories to cherish.

One such restaurant on many’s list has to be Dhaba by Claridges! That ‘horn ok please’ colour-pop truck that you clicked your family photo with and also tried sneaking inside even when its forbidden to tress pass. Eastman colour Bollywood posters. Serving crisp butter naan and tomatoey butter chicken on the tunes of RD Burman and Kishore Kumar.

Claridges has opened up a brand new but out of the hotel- stand alone Dhaba at DLF Place Mall in Saket.

That colour pop truck, 50’s movie posters and yummy mughlai food. Dhaba by Claridges maintains its authority well with this one too. Yet this place is more youthful and fun! The minute decor detailing are quirky, making it a lively option for lunch. I saw corporate peeps over for lunch and couples on dates. And I too was on one ;P

To begin with we ordered for the most interesting part of the whole Dhaba experience. Their Drinks! Full Dhaba ishtyle! Precisely- From a theka, a Pauva (quarter bottle) ! Satrangi or Narangi thara! How exciting this was! I drank like a baby 😛

Dhaba’s Chef  Mohsin Qureshi made sure we ate almost everything that was on the menu! The prices too are certainly not the five star ones.

For starters we had {Dhaba Prawns} {Amritsari Fish} {Amritsari Tawa Chap} {Highway Chicken Tikka}

The prawns were tender and well marinated.  The amritsari fish was fresh with a thin, crisp crust that was great to taste.

Though both the tawa chap and the tikkas came as a disappointment. Amritsari chaps and tikkas as usual are moist, tender and full of spices. Whereas both these starters were dry and not to great to taste . Ive had better tikkas in Delhi for sure.

After another drink break, the main course was served. And oh my my even though the starters had taken most of our appetite every dish served in the main course had smashing flavours that still lingers in my salivating memory!

For the main course we had: {Tiffin Chicken} {Balti Meat} {Chicken Biryani} {Dal Makhani} {Kanastari Baigan Bharta} {Assortment of breads}

The meat was perfectly cooked thus it melted in my mouth and the gravy was thick with boggling flavours. Dal makhani too was no less than any Bukhara! Both of them went well with the garlic naan they served in the breads.

The tiffin chicken and baigan ka bharta came like surprise gifts! Packed in indian style utensils. The tiffin opened up to tangy shredded chicken along with a malabar prantha and the boxed container opened up to one of my favourite veg dishes- baigan ka bharta.

The biryani was wonderfully flavoured and chicken was succulent. I could clearly see each grain of rice separate & spooned in rich spices.

What is desi food without desi dessert and a paan to end with.dhaba5

Baring few places its hard to believe when everything laid on the table turns out to be a smash hit! So when it comes to their main course, Dhaba was too one such experience! Starters for sure can be improved upon. All-in-All the ambience the interesting cocktails and more interestingly how they are served, quick service and proximity to the mall makes it a great place to eat!

Do try it out!

Until next time,
